This milestone reiterates the emergence of India as one of the world’s top telecom markets, says Sunil Mittal.

Saturday, May 16, 2009:  Bharti Airtel has crossed the 100 million customers mark, making the company the third largest single country mobile services operator and sixth largest in-country integrated telecom operator in the world.

The company had crossed the 75 million customer mark in August 2008 and 50 million mark in October 2007. The first 25 million was achieved in July 2006.

As part of the reorganisation, Randy Allen, senior vice president of AMD's computing solutions group, will be leaving the company.

Saturday, May 16, 2009:  AMD has announced a new operating model that centres the organisation on four equally critical functions -- products, technology, marketing and customers. The new structure, according to the company, is designed to better optimise AMD’s operations to drive performance graphics and microprocessors and further integrate the company’s x86 processor and graphics technologies. The restructuring marks the company's latest move to claw back market share lost to arch-rival Intel Corp.

AMD has recorded consecutive quarterly losses for more than two fiscal years now. The company reported a net loss of $416 million for the first quarter of 2009, compared to a loss of $364 million in the first quarter of 2008. < ... Read more »

Following two incidents in which overheated batteries caused damaged to property, the company has announced a worldwide voluntary recall and replacement programme for battery packs used in certain HP notebook PCs.

Saturday, May 16, 2009: HP, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and other safety regulatory authorities, is voluntarily recalling some 70,000 laptop batteries due to a fire hazard. HP and the battery cell manufacturer believe that certain battery packs shipped in HP notebook PC products manufactured between August 2007 and January 2008 may pose a potential safety hazard to customers. The batteries being recalled are made in China. The company, however, did not disclose the name of the battery manufacturer.
